Merinotech has a custom selection index which incorporates 24 traits that have ASBVs. The index was updated in 2024. With Merinotech having ceased mulesing in 2023, emphasis has been placed on non-mulesing traits including dag, breech wrinkle and breech cover. Emphasis has also been placed on the component traits of weaning rate (WR), particularly ewe rearing ability (ERA).

In addition to these objective traits, there is a strong focus on producing robust, easy-care sheep with sound structure.
