Over a 10 Year Period the Merinotech (WA) Breeding Objectives will:

  • Increase post weaning weight (PWT) 1.4 kg
  • Increase adult weight (AWT) 0.5 kg
  • Increase yearling fat (YFAT) 0.0 mm
  • Increase yearling eye muscle depth (YEMD) 0.8 mm
  • Increase clean fleece weight (CFW) 9.9 %
  • Decrease fibre diameter (FD) -1.4 micron
  • Decrerase fibre diameter coefficient of variation (HFDCV) 0.3 %
  • Increase staple strength (SS) 1.6 N/kTex
  • Increase number of lambs weaned (NLW) 1.9%
  • Also (YFEC) 30% of the total selection pressure is put on reducing faecal worm egg count.

In addition to these objective traits there is a strong focus on producing robust, easy care sheep with high fertility and stylish soft white wool.
